Thanks for his letters; informs Markham that Ruth Coward's book will be published; would like to bring out Markham's "Poetry of Jesus" amd would like to add a chapter entitled "Jesus as Dramatist"; asks him to think about the moving pictures in educational lines-like school books.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
